Role Description: Software Developer

AST Reygar is seeking a skilled Python Developer to join our innovative team. Specialising in IoT and big data analytics, we provide remote monitoring systems for the maritime and industrial sectors, with customers around the globe.

We are looking for a Python software developer to help develop our cloud platform, in particular:

  • The ingestion and transformation of large quantities of measured vessel data
  • Calculation of vessel KPIs, trends, alerts etc.
  • Allowing customers access to their data and KPIs using APIs, dashboards etc.

With 3-4 years of commercial software development experience, you adapt well to varying demands and thrive in a collaborative environment. You excel at solving complex problems, effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences, and driving continuous improvement.

Essential Experience / Qualifications / Educational attainments

Essential

  • Python
  • Amazon Web Services – In particular, using IaaS do deploy lambdas, step functions etc.
  • Docker
  • API development
  • Proficiency in version control (e.g. Git/Bitbucket)
  • Basic SQL
  • Degree in a technical subject such as computer science/engineering etc.

Desirable

  • Pandas, NumPy
  • FastAPI or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ORM Frameworks (e.g. Peewee /SQLAlchelmy)
  • Experience with big data solutions
  • Experience building test/deployment pipelines

Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  • Initial engagement with customers to establish monitoring requirements and interfaces to existing electrical systems
  • Electrical design of systems – these can be quite simple DIN-rail mounted equipment or more complex cabinet-mounted equipment
  • Remotely supporting electrical technicians to install and commission equipment
  • Supporting customers with their ongoing use of our existing products, including troubleshooting problems remotely providing information, processing orders, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Ensuring health & safety regulations are being always met.

This is a dynamic role that requires strong self-motivation and a proactive attitude. You’ll need to adapt to varying demands throughout busy periods and show enthusiasm for continuous improvement in technical solutions.
